Stress Mangement

What is Stress in Softball?

Softball is a game that requires a calm state of mind where your skill level can easily be affected by your psychological arousal level or, stress level. Different situations cause different levels of stress for different athletes which can depend on your level of experience and confidence.

Some common causes of stress include:

  • expectations
  • spectators
  • opponents

During competition  you can regulate your stress levels with mental training skills such as relaxation, visualization etc.

Managing Stress

Think of a time when you were feeling good about the upcoming game and as you are arriving to the field you look at the spectators and see someone that makes you nervous (ie. a scout from a local college) How can you use mental training skills to regulate the psychological arousal level that you might experience?
Think of a time when you were nervous in between games at an important tournament. (ie. you need to win to advance closer to the final game) How can you use mental training skills to restore your confidence to a solid performance level.
